Lindsay Stewart Prize

We are pleased to announce the creation of a new Foundation
Fund with the purpose of enabling surgeons in training to attend the Annual
Conference of the Association. Mr. Lindsay Stewart, an Honorary Fellow of the
Association has donated a capital sum of £ 10, 000, which will be disbursed by
the Trustees, Mr. George Borthwick and Mr. Denis Robson upon the request of the
representatives, Mr. Yusuf Kodwavwala and Mr. Imre Loefler not more than £ 1,
000 per annum.
Eligibility:
Extends to any surgeon in training who is an Associate member of the
Association provided that the trainee has written a scientific paper, which is
accepted to be read at the Annual Conference of the Association.
Selection:
The application by the trainee must be supported by the Head of Department of
the trainee and has to be addressed to the Honorary Secretary of the Association
in good time before the September meeting of the Council. The application must
be accompanied by an abstract of the paper. Council shall discuss the
applications and make recommendations to the representatives. Council may
suggest as many as three candidates to the representatives assigning a ranking
order. The Honorary Secretary shall inform the representatives of the Council's
choice without delay.
The Awards:
The representatives will calculate the Award by computing the airfare and the
cost of modest accommodation and the registration fees. The representative may,
using their own discretion use the available one thousand pounds sterling to
make awards to one, two or three of the selected candidates.
The Disbursement:
The representatives shall ask the selected candidates to send details of their
contact address to the Trustees to enable them to transfer to them the specific
sum of their Award. We would encourage all eligible surgeons to take advantage
of this new Foundation Fund to advance their clinical education.
