Management of open tibial fractures with intramedullary nailing. Challenges in Management
V Mutiso, Khainga; Nairobi – Kenya

ABSTRACT Controversy abounds about the merits and demerits of the use of intramedullary nails in open fractures.

One problem is that comparison of different modalities of treatment is difficult because of the subjective nature of injury classification. There is however a significant number of orthopaedic surgeons who have reported good results with nails and advocate its use in open fractures.

Non reamed intramedullary nailing is discussed and a case report of a patient with Gustillo IIIB open tibial fracture is presented.
