West African College of Surgeons Surgical Skills Training Centre and Atom course – At Korle Bu Teaching Hospital ACCRA

Abstract: Surgical Skills Training Center-Refurbished and equipped by Johnson & Johnson (J & J), International Aid, Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, University of Ghana Medical School, Ministry of Health of Ghana.

Advanced Trauma Operative Management (ATOM) Course is an educational Exchange Programme between West African College of Surgeons (ACS).

The Advanced Trauma Operative Management (ATOM) course is designed to retain surgeons in the techniques in the management of severe penetrating injuries, of the chest and abdomen – 70 surgeons have attended didactic lectures, 12 surgeons have completed course, 5 surgeons instructors have been certified, 12 surgeons audited the course, together with 4 nurses, 4 anaesthetists learned the technique of intubation of pigs and keeping them alive for major surgeries for 4 hours. One surgeon Prof. R. Darko is the Certified Chief Instructor Principal Investigator and Director of the ATOM Course Director

  1. BASIC SURGICAL SKILLS COURSE in conjunction with Royal College of Surgeons of England. 

  2. ATOM COURSE in conjunction with American College of Surgeons, University of Connecticut Medical School.

  3. SPECIALISED SURGICAL SKILLS TRAINING e.g. Eye Surgery in conjunction with Moorfields Eye Hospital, London UK

  4. MILITARY SURGERY

  5. SKILLS TRAINING PROGRAMMES OF VARIOUS COLLEGES IN WEST AFRICA

  6. TRAINING OF SURGEONS FROM WEST AND EAST AFRICA, ETHIOPIA & HORN OF AFRICA etc.
