Neglected Fracture – dislocations of the hip joint:
Surgical Challenges and Complications Abstract: Ten patients with neglected fracture-dislocations of the hip were surgically treated at GMH in 2003-2005. Time between the injury and operation was 4 to 11 weeks. Open reduction via lateral approach was the method of choice to access the acetabulum, mobilize proximal femur and reduce dislocation. Reconstruction of the acetabulur wall required more extensive approach, usage of bone grafts and implants. Temporary external fixation of the hip reduced possibility of redislocation. Serious technical difficulties were caused by altered anatomy, excessive scar formation, non-viable bone fragments. Complications were: Two redislocations |
