Morsology: Animal Bites

Introduction: There are throughout the world a large number of animals-both warm and cold blooded. These animals when stimulated negatively may attack, bite, and cause injury to the human.

Method: An extensive review of animals around the world and in various countries was accomplished both the domestic and wild animals. The incidence and injury created was then studied for the type of trauma and treatment considerations.

Result: Warm and cold blooded animal bites are common and may lead to serious injury, disfigurement, or death. Pet bites (dogs- 4.5 million and cats 0.5 million in the US) cause the greatest number of injuries. Zoo animals, working animals (camels, elephants, horses), carnivorous (large cats and bears), forest, and rodent animals, as well as humans, may all create serious and potentially lethal injuries.

Conclusion: Travelers and native or resident human populations must all be aware of the potential harmful animal, snake, or reptile injury and the required treatment. Antibiotics, rabies shots, surgery,
