Neglected Dermatogenic Knee Contracture – treatment with
External Fixation Abstract: We used orthopaedic approach in the treatment of 2 patients with dermatogenic postburn knee flexion contractures. We used the dynamic External Fixator of Volkov-Oganesyan (V-O Ex Fix), which is designed for treatment of the myo/arthrogenic knee joint contractures. The special hinge with gliding instant center of rotation allows complete reduction of deformity without repeated operations. Gradual daily manipulations with the device allowed straightening of the limbs within 1 month. This supplementary to plastic surgery method can bring advantages like: single GA, controlled reduction of the deformity, good access to the wounds and continuation of exercises with the device still on. |
