Message from the Chairman of the Organizing Committee
On behalf of the Organizing Committee, I warmly welcome you to the 54th Annual General Meeting and Scientific Conference of the Association of Surgeons of East Africa. In a very special way I welcome to Uganda our foreign guests some of whom are coming to this country for the first time, Sir Wilson Churchill referred to Uganda as the "Pearl of Africa" because of its beauty. This is the country in which River Nile starts its 6400 km (4000 miles) long journey, at the source of the Nile at Jinja, to the Mediterranean Sea. A number of pre-Conference activities have taken place including a number of workshops, The Organizing Committee is very grateful to the facilitators of these workshops. The number of abstracts received overwhelmed the Committee. Just in case your paper does not appear in the programme, please forgive us. At the end of every day's scientific programme you will have an opportunity to meet socially and experience the warm hospitality of the Ugandans. I wish to express my most sincere appreciation to all of you who have come to attend this conference and to those organizations and institutions that have supported us financially or otherwise. I thank all the members of the organizing Committee who have spent sleepless nights trying to ensure that this conference is a success. The organizing Committee apologizes in advance any shortcomings that you may experience. I wish you all a very successful conference and a happy stay in Kampala. May God bless you all.
